Bhushan's clutch single lifts Red Sox to 6-5 Pony victory

It was the last half of the last inning, and the Los Gatos Red Sox were trailing the Saratoga Cardinals 5-4 in a Los Gatos Pony League game. But Devin Bhushan wasn't ready to throw in the towel.

Bhushan capped a nine-pitch at-bat with a two-run single to lift the Sox to a thrilling 6-5 win over the boys from Saratoga.

Houston Hibberd, a hitting star in the game for the Red Sox with a double and two singles to drive in three runs, opened the seventh with a single and Alex Moser belted one of his three singles. With the tying and winning runs on base, Bhushan fought off pitch after pitch before delivering the game-winning hit.

Tim Garvey, Hank Hansen and Joshua Yun cracked two hits each in the win. Hibberd was a pitching standout in the game, striking out seven in six innings.

The Red Sox came back two days later with a 9-3 win over the Los Gatos Cubs. Yun had three hits to knock in two runs and Hibberd had two hits to drive in three. Sean Harrington also doubled home a run.

Chris LaBouff led the Cubs with a couple of doubles to knock home two runs. Matthew Kirwan added two hits.

The Red Sox wrapped up the week with a 12-2 win over the Los Gatos Orioles. Yun doubled twice and singled to drive in three runs for the winners and Hansen had two hits and five runs-batted-in. Harrington had two hits and plated a run, Justin Krupp added two hits and Moser doubled.

Hibberd was impressive on the hill, fanning five in four innings of no-hit, no-run pitching.

Kyle Johnson singled and scored on a hit by Geo Shannon, who later scored, to account for all of the scoring for the Orioles.

In other action, the Los Gatos Giants rolled past the Los Gatos Marlins 11-4. Nate Burke had four hits, including a triple, to lead the Giants.

Michael Hodgman singled and doubled and drove in a run for the Marlins and Stefan Eckhardt singled and knocked in a run. Colin Carney, Colin Chapman and Brendan Crane added two hits each. Carney drove in two runs and Chapman knocked in one, along with striking out seven in five innings of mound work.

Nate Aguiar had two hits and struck out eight in four innings on the hill to lead the Los Gatos Yankees to a 9-6 win over the Los Gatos Orioles. Jordan Dombrowsky knocked in two runs in the win.

Kevin Cage ripped a home run and a double to drive in three runs for the O's. Johnson had two hits and drove in a run, and Spencer Haven singled and knocked in a run.

Chapman ripped three hits and Burke doubled and tripled to lead the Los Gatos Giants to a 6-4 win over the Los Gatos Marlins. Burke also starred on the mound in the win, striking out 10 in 4 1/3 innings of work. Zachary Gray added two hits for the Giants.

Travis Bonner singled and doubled to lead the Marlins at the plate. Eckhardt added two hits Jason O'Brien ripped a double.

In other games, the Saratoga A's topped the Los Gatos Reds 5-2, the Saratoga White Sox edged the Saratoga Red Sox 2-1, the Saratoga A's crushed the Saratoga White Sox 21-4 and the Los Gatos A's outlasted the Los Gatos Astros 11-9.
