Honts steps in as the Community Hospital of Los Gatos CEO
By Grant Shellen
Gary Honts, a hospital administrator with more than 25 years of health-care experience, was named chief executive officer of Community Hospital of Los Gatos last week. He fills the position left vacant by Dan Doore, now CEO of the Bay Area Pain Program.

Most recently, Honts served as chief operating officer at the Hilton Head Regional Medical Center in Hilton Head, S.C. Prior to that, he held the same role at the Atlanta Medical Center and the Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Neb. He also acted as an interim CEO for the latter two hospitals.

Honts said he chose the position because it allowed him professional growth while staying with the parent company Tenet Healthcare Corp. He said Los Gatos appeared to be an ideal setting to move with his wife and 13-year-old daughter. He has two older children who no longer live at home.

"The biggest selling point was really the hospital itself and the services that are offered here," he said. "What helped me make my mind up was that I spent time going through Los Gatos for a couple of days just asking questions about the hospital. I heard really positive things ... I felt really good about how the hospital was perceived in the community."

Honts started May 2 and immediately began the orientation process. He says he wants to do a bit of fact-finding to see what can be improved at the 143-bed facility.

"For the short term, I want to meet with the medical staff and the employees to understand what their concerns or perceptions are," he said.
