Wayne Pacelle, the president and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States, will soon share strategies for preparing for the future--for both people and pets.
Pacelle and representatives from the Bay Area agency of the MassMutual Financial Group will participate in a seminar at the Toll House Hotel, 140 S. Santa Cruz Ave., on May 18 at 6:30 p.m. The financial representatives will talk about how to set up planned giving strategies. Pacelle will address how that can include ensuring for the care of animals, as well as some general information about the Humane Society.
"I'll be covering the broad reach of our work and speaking about the importance of compassion and mercy toward animals," Pacelle said. "Part of this is talking to our supporters about estate planning and other longer-term means of supporting our work, and making sure that their money, once they pass on, is put to the uses that they would hope."
Pacelle said animal lovers might want to consider leaving money to the society because of the wide-ranging programs it offers, including animal research and anti-cruelty education, litigation work, habitats for rescued animals and mobile spay and neuter services.
In addition, people can set up trust funds to ensure that after their deaths their pets will be cared for.
"If you go away for a few days, you make plans for your pets," Pacelle said. "If you go away indefinitely, you want to do the same thing. It's just the responsible thing to do."
A free dinner will be provided at the seminar, and reservations are required. To make reservations or to obtain more information, contact the Humane Society of the United States at 866.448.5052 or 510.758.4086.
