It was a sweet Mother's Day victory for the Los Gatos Rowing Club's men's varsity lightweight 8 at the Southwest Regional championships held in Sacramento.

Eight teams competed in two heats with the top six boats advancing to the finals. Los Gatos pulled out to a victory in the race for the championship, covering the 2,000 meters in 6:23.81 to finish just under three seconds ahead of its nearest rival. With the win, Los Gatos qualifies for the national finals to be held in Cincinnati.

Members of the team include stroke Cole Sickler, 7-seat John Emison and 5-seat Jonathan Moultrup of Los Gatos High School; 6-seat Andrew Martin, 4-seat Jeff Clause and 2-seat Matthew Wagstaffe of Bellarmine; 3-seat Evan Jaques of St. Francis; bow Peter Pavlidakis of Saratoga; and coxswain Alix Pruzansky of Castilleja.

Many of the same crew team members were in the boat last year when Los Gatos finished third and missed a trip to the nationals by 7/10 of a second.
