An age-old rivalry was renewed when the Yankees met the Red Sox on May 20. But it wasn't Randy Johnson on the mound for the Yanks, it was Nate Aguiar; and the game wasn't played in New York, it was in Los Gatos.
The Yankees met and defeated the Red Sox 3-1 in Los Gatos Pony League action thanks to Aquiar's great outing. Aguiar went six innings on the hill, striking out 12, and he helped himself with a single to knock in a run.
Alex Silva led the offense of the Yanks, roping a pair of singles and a triple in the win. Silva also drove in one of the three runs.
Though they were unable to put a win together, the Red Sox were not without their own stars. Justin Krupp ripped a single and drove in the only run of the game for the Sox, while Houston Hibberd threw seven innings and struck out eight.
The Saratoga Red Sox defeated the Los Gatos Orioles 14-3.
The Saratoga Cardinals downed the Los Gatos Reds the day before 8-7, but the Reds put up quite a fight. Justin Lewis had the big bat, blasting a single, a double and driving in a run. Jake Scullion belted a single and had two RBIs, Jason Shepardson singled and drove in a run, Devon Coen smashed a double and had an RBI and Reed Gonzales also had a base knock and an RBI.
The Saratoga White Sox defeated the Los Gatos Cubs 3-0.
The Saratoga A's bested the Los Gatos Giants 6-1 on May 18 and the Los Gatos Yankees won their game against the Los Gatos Orioles 9-7.
Aguiar was on fire again for the Yanks, smashing two singles, a double and driving in two runs, but it was Jordan Dombrowsky who had the power in his bat. Dombrowsky hammered out two singles and hit a home run for the Yanks. He also drove in three of the nine runs scored for the Yankees. Derek Rodrigues singled and had an RBI, Joe Pierce had a base knock and an RBI and Jeffrey Clark doubled and drove in a run. Andy Furia also had two singles in the win.
Michey Mitchell had two singles for the O's and drove in one run, while Kyle Johnson had three base hits and drove in two. Geo Shannon had a single and a double and had two RBIs, while Kevin Cage and Hendee Wall had a single and an RBI each.
The Yanks met the Reds the day before and had quite the battle. The game went through eight innings before the Yankees were able to score a second run to win the game 2-1.
Aguiar was on fire, crushing three doubles and driving in one of the two runs for the Yanks as well as scoring the winning run. He also threw four innings, struck out four and allowed only one hit. Rodrigues singled and doubled and both Clark and Jake Cathey singled in the win.
Jake Scullion drove in the only run for the Reds on a base knock, while Chris Bitter and Jason Shepardson both singled in the loss.
The Los Gatos Red Sox also defeated the Los Gatos A's on May 17, 9-4. Sean Harrington was a dominant force on the mound for the Sox, throwing two hitless innings and striking out four batters. Hank Hansen blasted two singles, a double and drove in three runs.
