It was disappointment times two for the Los Gatos Little League last weekend at the District 12 Tournament of Champions.

Two teams from local circuit entered the district tourney at the Almaden Little League fields on June 11, but both the Cubs and the A's were defeated in the first round.

The A's faced an overpowering team from Almaden Southern and lost 12-4. The A's put up two runs in both the first and the third, but struggled in the other innings to even get a player on base.

Justin Williams opened up the bottom of the third with a base knock and raced to third on a double by Henry Kuckens. Jake Raynaud knocked in Williams when he reached on an error by the shortstop. With runners at the corners, the next batter struck out for the first out of the inning before Sutton Roley hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Kuckens.

The bottom of the first seemed to give hope to the A's when Williams led the game off with a double. Kuckens reached on a single, but was caught between first and second. Raynaud reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Williams to score. Raynaud stole second and scored when Joey Comeau reached on an error.

Comeau threw two-plus impressive innings for the A's. He came in in the top of the third and struck out the side, and then in the fourth he was able to get two outs before a fly ball got away from the center fielder and the runner wound up on second. But Comeau struck out the next batter to end the only two innings that Almaden was held scoreless.

The A's were playing with only nine players against their strong opponents. Rounding out the roster were Jonathan Engleman, Trevor Williams, Drew Marchbank and Evan Wilcox.

The Los Gatos Cubs also fell in their game against the team from Willow Glen. The Cubs jumped out to an early lead, scoring two in the first, but then gave up a pair of runs in the second to tie it. The Cubs scored another run in the top of the third to take back the lead, but gave up two in the bottom of the inning. They tied it up again in the top of the fifth with a run, but they gave up another in the bottom half of the inning and couldn't score in the sixth.

The Cubs' last run came in the fifth. Tyler Olivet led off with a single and Curtis Breidenthal walked. The runners advanced on a wild pitch and Olivet scored when Greg Mayo grounded out to short. Breidenthal tried to come around and score as well, but was thrown out at home. Willow Glen got the next batter to fly out to right to end the inning.

Breidenthal led off the third inning with a solo homer. But Willow Glen kept its composure and got out of the inning without any further damage.

Their other two runs came in the top of the first. With one out, Olivet singled and scored on a triple by Breidenthal. Willow Glen struck out the next batter and then Max Genetti walked and Blake Harrington reached base on an error by the second baseman that scored Breidenthal. Tanner Wingo walked to load the bases, but Neal Barnby grounded out to the pitcher to end the inning.
