It was a game that could only be described as magical.

The Los Gatos-Saratoga Magic advanced to the third-place game in the 14 and under division of the SLO/LO Classic played in San Luis Obispo over the Memorial Day weekend, and they were going up against their sister team, Magic No. 2.

Both teams worked their magic for six innings before Magic No. 1 pulled out a thrilling 2-1 victory to clinch third place in the 12-team tourney.

Leslie Zankich went the distance to toss a 5-hitter, striking out seven along the way, to lead her team to the win.

Shortstop Laura Ruddy starred on the infield for the winners along with Emily Nelson at first, Allison Heymann at second and Casey Showalter at third. Ruddy led the defensive effort with five putouts.

Catcher Sarah Floyd was another defensive standout, making a fine rally-ending play in the first inning.

Magic No. 1 scored two runs in the fourth in the win. Kendra Mann walked, stole second and third and scored on a sacrifice fly to right field by Nelson. Showalter also worked a walk, raced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Zankich and scored on a single by Heymann.

Mann, Cathryn Paolini, Diana Beck and Gaby Kapp handled the chores in the outfield for the winners and other team members included Sammy Augustine, Melissa Ozaslan, Rachel Kent, Deanna Devlin and Madeline Schmitt.

Laura Slabon was tagged with the tough pitching loss, despite throwing a solid game for Magic No. 2.

Magic No. 1 finished the tourney with a .427 team average and scored 47 runs while allowing only 26. The club's only loss was to eventual champ, the SLO/LO Flames.
