Keegan Vega wasn't unhittable in the District 12 9-year-old all-star tournament--just almost.
Vega allowed just four hits in two of the games he pitched to lead the Los Gatos American division all-stars to wins over Branham Hills and Lincoln Glen.
The two wins, together with a victory over Willow Glen, helped the locals post a 3-1 record in tourney pool play, a mark good enough to get them into the semifinals.,
Los Gatos was to face Almaden North on Monday with the winner advancing to the district championship game on June 28, 5:30 p.m., at the Cambrian Little League field, located near Leigh and Foxworthy avenues in San Jose.
Vega's gem of the tourney came in the 10-0 win over Branham Hills. He went the distance, tossing a 1-hitter and striking out seven in the five inning game.
Nick Carroll led the offensive attack with four hits, three runs scored and four stolen bases. Corey Olivet belted a home run and Peter Goodlin doubled.
Los Gatos capped pool play with the 12-1 win over Lincoln Glen last Saturday. Vegas tossed four innings in the win, fanning six while allowing just three hits and a walk. He also contributed with the bat, belting two doubles and a single.
Carroll had three hits and scored three runs, Olivet singled twice and scored four times and Patrick Cole added two hits.
Vega doubled, singled twice and scored four runs in the 17-7 win over Willow Glen. Logan Chapman had three hits and scored twice.
Carroll cracked three hits and Chapman doubled home two runs, but Los Gatos lost 14-6 to Saratoga.
Rounding out the American all-star team are Griffin Jordan, Jamie Leong, Jordan Leong, Sam Friess, Drew Goldstein and Gregory Sprintz. The team is managed by Mike Sprintz.
National 9's
In other action in the division, Los Gatos National blanked the American Little League 10-0 but lost 6-0 to Almaden North and 13-3 to Cambrian.
Preston Roley was the man of the hour in the 10-0 win. Roley rolled through the American line-up to toss a complete game no-hitter, striking out nine along the way. He also helped his cause at the plate with a single, a double and three runs scored.
Matt Wander doubled twice and drove in two runs in the win and Michael Aguiar singled and doubled. Marc Cameron added two hits and Nick Bawden and Grady Duggan scored two runs apiece.
Cameron drove in two runs and Aguiar singled a run home, but National lost a 13-3 nod to Cambrian. Wander, Jake Ricci and Roley each singled and scored in the game.
Mark Wander managed the team that also included Patrick Tabari, Vincent VonLuehrte, Michael Ferrari, Elliott Herman, Mitch Wander and Matthew Mingrone.
8-year-olds
The National division 8-year-old all-stars lost their opener 29-6 to Quito and then fell 14-4 to Saratoga and 6-4 to Union.
Johnny Breidenthal singled and doubled to drive in four runs in the 6-4 loss to Union and Matthew Clem, Ethan Wood and Bryce Braga each singled.
Breidenthal starred again in the loss to Saratoga. He worked three innings as the Los Gatos pitcher, striking out eight, and he also ripped a double. Vincent DeCarlo had two hits and Aiden Finch, Wood, Jeremy Tabke and Jack Sexton added hits. Finch tossed two innings, fanning four.
Rounding out the National squad were Adam O'Regan, Vincent DeCarlo, Jo Jo Ventura, Evan Warkov and Brett Foley. Leslie Finch was the club's manager.
The American division 8-year-olds dropped 12-2 and 4-2 decisions to the American Little League and lost 17-3 to Union. Members of the team, managed by Dan Brodnik, were Matthew Brodnik, Dylan Plane, Jason Comstock, Quinn Spiteri, John Scott Cruse, Marko Trapani, Hunter Dallas, T.J. Webb, C.J. Hibbetts, Slater Wellington, Johnny Oudewaal, Matthew Wilcox and Jacob Patterson.
