Payback can sometimes be a satisfying experience. The Wild Ducks of the Los Gatos Little League know the feeling. The 9-year-old all-stars enjoyed a healthy dose of payback when they defeated Cambrian Park Little League in the championship game of the District 12 all-star tournament.

Last year Cambrian Park team bested Los Gatos in eight innings in the 8-year-old all-star championships, but Los Gatos exacted its revenge this year with an 8-1 victory on June 28.

Keegan Vega was a large part of the game for Los Gatos American. Vega topped the mound for all six innings and allowed only one run on six hits and one walk, but also managed to send 10 batters back to the dugout by way of strikes. Aside from his pitching contribution in the win, Vega went 3 for 3 on the day.

It was in the second inning that Los Gatos broke the game open when Griffin Jordan roped a triple with the bases loaded, scoring all three runners and then scoring himself when Nick Carroll reached on a fielder's choice.

Los Gatos added four more runs in the fifth inning on hits by Carroll, Vega, Peter Goodlin, Logan Chapman and Patrick Cole.

But the championship game wasn't the only highlight of the tournament for Los Gatos. The locals faced Almaden North on June 27 and posted a come-from-behind win to work their way into a final game with Cambrian Park. Los Gatos won 12-10 after trailing 9-6 entering the top of the sixth and 8-0 after three innings.

It was in the third inning that the momentum changed. Los Gatos' Corey Olivet came in to pitch with two outs and the bases loaded. Olivet ended up closing out the game for the Wild Ducks and also went 5 for 5 at the plate.

The fourth inning marked the first runs for Los Gatos when Olivet scored and Vega followed on a fielder's choice by Sam Friess.

Olivet shut down Almaden and then Los Gatos rallied for four more runs in the fifth. Carroll, Olivet, Vega, Goodlin and Chapman all contributed hits in the rally.

Entering the sixth trailing 9-6, Los Gatos sparked a major comeback by scoring six runs with both Goodlin and Cole smashing doubles in the inning.

Leading 12-9, Olivet topped the mound one more time. He allowed an inside the park home run by the leadoff hitter for Almaden, but then shut down the next three in order to clinch the win.

Gregory Sprintz, Drew Goldstein, Jamie Leong and Jordan Leong all contributed in the win as well.

Los Gatos American, managed by Mike Sprintz, had opened the tournament by posting a 3-1 record in pool play to win a berth in the championship playoffs.

Los Gatos is now hosting the 11-year-old tournament from June 30 to July 12 at Baggerly and Balzer fields, and they will be flying their new flag over the outfield wall--their District 12 9-year-old championship flag.
