Jake Raynaud and Preston Rind must not have been paying much attention during the lessons on sharing in kindergarten. Because the two Los Gatos Little League pitchers weren't too interested in sharing the baseball with their teammates during the first two games of the District 12 11-year-old all-star tournament.
Raynaud and Rind both tossed complete games to lead Los Gatos American to back-to-back wins over Quito and Almaden South in the tournament hosted by Los Gatos at Baggerly and Balzer fields.
Raynaud was pretty selfish to both his teammates and to Quito in the tourney opener. The 11-year-old hurler held onto the baseball throughout the game, going the distance for Los Altos and limiting Quito to just three hits. He walked just three and threw five no-hit, no-run innings in the win.
Raynaud started strong, striking out the side in the first--all looking. He finished the day with seven strikeouts.
Matt Church led the offensive attack for Los Gatos with a double and two singles to drive in four runs. Rind and Joey Comeau each had two hits and scored two runs apiece, and Marshall Finch ripped a home run, scored twice and reached base five times.
The infield of Rind at first base, Finch at second, Comeau at shortstop and Teddy Enfantino at third played solid defense in the win, as did catcher Bryan Rose.
Los Gatos American came back a day later with an 11-5 win over Almaden South with Rind handling the chores on the mound. Rind tossed a complete game 2-hitter, striking out 10 and walking five. He also helped his cause the plate with two hits, driving in a run and scoring another.
Raynaud singled and doubled to drive in three runs for the winners and Comeau singled and doubled to drive in two runs and he scored two. Church also singled and doubled to knock in a run and score two, and Finch ripped two hits to drive in two and score two more.
Trevor Comstock scored two runs for Los Gatos in the win and A.J. Meyers added one.
Rounding out the American club are Sean Niemann, Jimmy Eisner and Justin Williams. The team's manager is Mark Raynaud.
Los Gatos American will be back in action on July 7 against rival Los Gatos National at 5:30 p.m. at Baggerly Field. LG American closes out pool play on July 9, 10 a.m., against Cambrian Park at Baggerly.
Los Gatos National lost 5-4 to Cambrian in a game last Saturday. National was to face Almaden South on July 5, 5:30 p.m., at Balzer before meeting up with LG American on Thursday. National closes out pool play on July 9, 3 p.m., against Union at Baggerly.
Playing for the National all-star squad, managed by Jere Hench, are Aaron Aguiar, Jack Fordyce, Preston Anderson, Blake Harrington, Vincent Augustine, Evan Hench, Nolan Cole, Jeffrey Leong, Ryan Cooley, Greg Mayo, Gregory Cox and Spencer Moon.
The tournament will wrap up with the championship finals on July 11 and 12.
