There is nothing like a high school reunion for a reminder that time marches on. That's why a 20-year reunion, and the memories it stirs up for former classmates, takes center stage in Craig Wright's play The Pavilion.
The insightful romantic comedy/drama is currently playing Thursday through Sunday evenings through Aug. 20 at City Lights Theater, 529 S. Second St., San Jose. (See related story on next page.)
The Pavilion tells of a 20-year reunion held by the class of 1985 in the small town of Pine City, Minn. The play focuses on high school sweethearts, Peter and Kari, who are still haunted by their unresolved break-up after graduation. So dramatic was the break that the two haven't seen each other since.
Even as the former couple faces their feelings and classmates chime in with opinions, there's more going on in The Pavilion than confrontations and awkward small talk. Wright takes on the fabric of time and the universe through the observations of the play's narrator. The character talks about events as they unfold and comments on the relentless passage of time--and how it doesn't always have to be a bad thing.
Tickets are $15-$28. For more information, call 408.295.4200 or see www.cltc.org.
