A Santa Clara County firefighter Shanna Kuempel (above) talks to her crew as they work to extinguish a fire on Oct. 12. Around 2:45 p.m., a coffee bean roaster caught on fire at Great Bear Coffee and Café on N. Santa Cruz Avenue. The fire traveled through the flue from the coffeehouse to the roof.
