Holiday shopping can leave even the most organized person frazzled.
This year, the Los Gatos United Methodist Church wants to help local residents find a little calm amidst the shopping storm with a concert on Dec. 23.
"A World of Christmas" will feature nearly 100 Silicon Valley musicians and choral singers, including many from Los Gatos and Saratoga. The performers will present music from Ireland, Poland, France, the West Indies and more. The chorus and orchestra will perform several pieces from Handel's Messiah, including the Hallelujah Chorus, in which the audience will be invited to sing along.
"The orchestra will feature some of Silicon Valley's finest instrumentalists. The choir will number 60 strong, and will be augmented by a stellar group from West Valley College's burgeoning choral program," says J. Randal Hawkins, music director at Los Gatos United Methodist Church. "Add to these forces the exceptional acoustics of the Los Gatos United Methodist Church chapel, and we've got a truly festive and exhilarating holiday event for the community."
"We are excited about the opportunity to offer this wonderful Christmas cantata to our community," says Jay C. Parr, chairman of the church board. "Hot cider and cocoa to keep you warm, and an outstanding holiday performance, it's the perfect recipe to celebrate this joyous time of year."
'A World of Christmas' begins at 7 p.m. on Dec. 23 at Los Gatos United Methodist Church, 111 Church St. The concert is free. For more information, contact J. Randal Hawkins at 408.354.4730 or lgumc@lgumc.org. Visit www.lgumc.org.
