The Bellarmine water polo swamped the competition in the 2003 fall season, so it came as little surprise to see the Bells dominate the selections when it came time for the West Catholic Athletic League coaches to pick their all-league team.

The Bells rolled to WCAL and Central Coast Section championships in the recently completed campaign, and six Bellarmine players ending up topping the all-league list.

Earning all-league first team honors for the Bells were seniors Mike Hayes, Matt MacDonell, Chris Talbott and Nick Sgarlata. Hayes and Talbott were drivers for the Bells and MacDonell played the field. Sgarlata was the squad's goalkeeper.

Junior driver Ched Cashin and senior field player Mike Machado were tabbed to the all-league second team for the Bells.

Over on the football field, the Bells finished in a fourth-place tie with Serra—both clubs at 3-3 in league play—but earned a place in the CCS playoffs. Bellarmine opened the CCS Division I playoffs with an upset win over Oak Grove before losing to eventual champion, Palma. The Bells finished the season 7-4 overall.

Seniors Langston Johnson and Juan Gamboa topped the list of Bellarmine award winners for the year. Johnson was picked the Outstanding Offensive Lineman in the WCAL and Gamboa was tabbed the league's Outstanding Kicker.

Johnson, a talented two-way star at tight and outside linebacker, topped a list of five Bellarmine seniors named to the all-league first team. Joining him on the list were running back/linebacker Chris Parrette, offensive lineman/noseguard Chip Lewis, wide receiver/cornerback Ryan Harris and linebacker Andy Armstrong.

Gamboa earned an all-league second team spot along with teammates Darrin Bragg, a senior quarterback, and John Gill, a junior two-way tackle.

Landing places on the all-league honorable mention list for Bellarmine were seniors Dustin Coppernoll, an outside linebacker, and Luke Council, a center.
