Student protesters: Several hundred students from various schools, including Downtown College Prep, Lincoln and Hoover Junior high schools, marched in front of San Jose City Hall on March 27 to protest proposed legislation that would charge illegal immigrants as felons.

San Jose Arena Authority is seeking
candidates for four board vacancies
The San Jose Arena Authority is seeking local residents for four upcoming vacancies on its board of directors.
The directors meet monthly "to identify and address issues relating to the management and operation of HP Pavilion and Logitech Ice."
There are also additional committee meetings.
The vacancies, which include voting power, are open because other board members were termed out.
The current terms are for July 1, 2006, through June 30, 2010. Members are eligible for two full four-year terms, and they could apply to extend through June 30, 2014.

ABA mixer is

Security blankets
at Communknity
Communknity is hosting a Linus Stitch-Together on April 2 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the store, 1345 The Alameda.
Volunteers will be stitching together knitted and crocheted squares into blankets that will be given to the South Bay Chapter of Project Linus. The group donates new, handmade blankets and afghans to children who are seriously ill, traumatized or otherwise in need of a sense of security, warmth and comfort.
Commuknity also welcomes donations of completed blankets at any time to pass along. Blankets must be made of acrylic or washable yarn.

Ballpark meeting
is set for April 1
The San Jose Redevelopment Agency is holding another public meeting to discuss the ballpark environmental impact report on April 1 at 10 a.m. in the San Jose City Council chambers.

Temple Emanu-El is holding a rummage sale on April 2 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the temple, 1010 University Ave.
Among the items for sale are clothing, computers, books, household items and things for children.
SHPNA volunteers
will be honored
The Shasta-Hanchett Park Neighborhood Association is hosting a volunteer recognition and recruitment evening on April 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Fireside Room, Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1100 Shasta Ave., at The Alameda.
