St. Martin raises
$3,000 for Iraqis

Seventh-graders at St. Martin of Tours School raised close to $3,000 to buy soccer balls for children in Iraq.

The money was raised at a bake sale and through donations. The students were responding to a request from alumni Army Spc. Kevin Ferguson, who is now serving in Iraq. Ferguson has been giving the balls to children he meets while out on patrol.

Valley Athletic in Campbell is selling the balls at $5 each, which is below cost, and Operation Care and Comfort has agreed to pay for shipping.

Don Gagliardi made a $1,000 donation on behalf of Soccer Silicon Valley after reading about the St. Martin's student efforts in the Rose Garden Resident.
