Housing to replace Stockton's auto shops
Morrison Homes plans to build 248 units by '07
By Mary Gottschalk
The current mix of auto shops and other light industrial businesses along Stockton Avenue may soon give way to housing if a San Mateo developer has his way.
Christopher Kober, president of Morrison Park Homes, has filed a rezoning request with the city of San Jose to change the current light industrial zoning on 4.4 acres along Stockton to planned development.
Plans for what would be called Morrison Park are for 248 single-family attached residences in three- and four-story buildings. The proposal includes an underground parking lot, similar to the one at nearby Cinnabar Commons.
The project is bounded by Stockton Avenue, W. Julian Street, N. Morrison Avenue and Cinnabar Street.
Depending on the speed of plans and permits, Kober says the company hopes to begin construction in mid-2007 with the first units for sale by the end of 2007 or early 2008.
Prices won't be determined until building costs and current market place prices are known, Kober says.
Input from nearby neighborhoods will be sought at a community meeting and in public hearings before the planning commission. No meeting dates have been set.
Kober, who was involved in the development of the Cahill Park project, says he expects to have a website with information on the project up by next spring.
