Lincoln volleyball, tennis teams claim wins in division matches
By Eli Segall
The Lincoln girls volleyball has kicked it into fifth gear.
The squad pumped out a resounding, home court victory against Overfelt on Oct. 10. Two days after that the Lions avenged this year's opening match loss to Silver Creek with a hard-fought, home court win over the Raiders.
Lincoln has now won five matches in a row in the Santa Teresa Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League, bringing its division record to 5-3. The Lions overall record improved to 8-5.
Senior Alex Scoffone led the charge last week, landing 16 kills against Overfelt and 25 against Silver Creek. Lincoln trounced Overfelt 25-14, 25-18, 25-17, and rode that momentum straight into Silver Creek, winning 25-17, 25-19, 25-27, 25-23.
Aside from the 6-foot-2 Scoffone dominating the net, Lincoln counts on Breanna Lane, a shifty 5-foot-5 junior who leads each charge with pinpoint serving accuracy. Junior Tarah Herning, a 5-foot-6 sparkplug, leads the team in blocks.
The Lions was to host Independence on Oct. 17 and will entertain Santa Teresa on Oct. 19 and Willow Glen on Oct. 26. Andrew Hill hosts Lincoln on Oct. 26, and the team rounds out its season at Overfelt on Nov. 2.
Lions net victories
The girls tennis team continues to dominate opponents. The Lions annihilated Gunderson on Oct. 12, toppling the Grizzlies 6-1 on Lincoln's home court.
The victory brought the Lions record to 10-2.
Singles ace Laura Camberos led the way, winning in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1. On the doubles front, Jeanette Erlendson and Ashley Sanchez smashed their opponents 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
Acorns swamp Lions
The boys water polo team struggled to find its footing against Live Oak, losing 18-5 in its Oct. 11 away game.
Brock Williams, Rush Manbert, Aaron Gough, Tyler Shafsky and Chris Scott each scored a goal in an effort to help to keep their team above water.
Lincoln's Mt. Hamilton Division record now stands at 1-2. The team will finish the year at home on Oct. 24 against Mt. Pleasant.
