Ortiz paces Lincoln to two more golf wins

And the perfection continues. The Lincoln golf team continues to dominate the competition in the Santa Teresa division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League. The Lions have yet to lose a match this year, gaining two more wins last week over Willow Glen.
On April 26, the Lions defeated the Rams 226-277 at the par 36 Cinnabar Hills Golf Course. Diego Ortiz and Gordon Meacham had the best rounds for Lincoln, both shooting a 40.
On April 24, Lincoln had bested Willow Glen 222-240 at the Spring Valley Golf Course. Again, Ortiz was one of the leaders along with Tyler Shafsky. The two Lions each shot 40s on the par 34 course.
The wins bring Lincoln to 13-0 in league.
The Blossom Valley Athletic League team playoffs were to be held on April 30, with the BVAL individual championship on May 1. Central Coast Section competition begins on May 7.
Softball team scores
Lincoln's softball team scored a lot of runs in the past week. The Lions topped Overfelt 10-3 on April 27 with Bria Bohdanowicz getting her 13th pitching win with an 8-hitter. Chloe LaRussa blasted one out of the park and Elisabeth Garber had three hits and scored twice in the win.
Lincoln is now 13-5 overall this year and 13-3 in the West Valley Division.
On April 25, Lincoln defeated Gunderson 6-4 with Bohdanowicz doing the pitching again, tossing an 8-hitter and striking out eight along the way. Reyna Maldonado knocked two hits, scored twice, drove in two runs and stole two bases in the win.
Days earlier the Lions blanked Yerba Buena 10-0 in only five innings with Bohdanowicz tossing the 1-hit shutout. Makenna Austin knocked three hits, including a long ball and a double. She also scored three runs and drove in three.
The Lions, who were to face Lick on Monday and Silver Creek on Wednesday, will host Andrew Hill on May 4, 3:30 p.m., before closing out the regular season next week at San Jose on May 8 and at Yerba Buena on May 10 in a couple of 3:30 p.m. games.
Big baseball numbers
Like the softball team, the Lincoln baseball team has also been scoring a lot of runs, beating James Lick 20-0, Gunderson 11-1 and Andrew Hill 11-1.
Kirk Rose held Lick scoreless on April 27, tossing a 9-hitter and running his mound record to 7-1, while the Lions rallied for 20 runs, including 10 runs in one inning. Ryan Cannon knocked four hits in the win for Lincoln. The win brings the Lions' record to 16-3 overall and 15-2 in the West Valley Division.
On April 25 it was Max Lawrence on the hill picking up his fourth win in five decisions this the season in the victory over Gunderson. Lincoln defeated the Grizzlies 11-1 in only five innings, with A.J. Montoya knocking a pair of hits and driving in two runs.
Lincoln also bested Andrew Hill on April 23, winning 13-1 in only five innings with Scott Healy on the mound for his first win of the season. Brad Pickens had a pair of hits, including a double and two RBIs.
The Lions were to play Silver Creek on May 2 before heading to Yerba Buena on May 4 for a 3:30 p.m. start. After that Lincoln has only two games left to finish out the regular season. The Lions will host Overfelt on May 9 at 3:30 p.m. and then travel to San Jose on May 11 for another 3:30 p.m. start.
Mendoza wins two
The boys track and field team struggled against Leigh on April 26, falling 74-53. Tevita Mendoza won both the shot put and discus again this week. Mendoza put the shot 43-8 and threw the discus 109-0.
Michael Fleet was able to take the 100 in 11.30. Justin Kirksey won the 300 intermediate hurdles in 41.90, Jose Cervantes won the 3,200-meter run in 11:29.00. Lincoln also won the 4x400 relay in 3:48.
The loss drops Lincoln to 3-4 in the Santa Teresa Division.
As for the girls, they struggled against the Longhorns as well on April 26, losing 81-41. Ashley Guin won the 100 hurdles in 19.84 and Jessica Gore took first in the 300 intermediates in 51.5. The Lions also won the 4x400 relay in 4:42.
The loss leaves Lincoln 1-6 in the Santa Teresa Division.
For both the girls and the boys, the final stretch begins this week with the Blossom Valley Athletic League division finals on May 3 at Lincoln at 3:30 p.m.
