Tulowitzki tops Hot Stove Banquet award list

Major League stars Troy Tulowitzki of the Colorado Rockies and Jeremy Guthrie of the Baltimore Orioles will top the list when master of ceremonies Ted Robinson announces the line-up of winners at the 24th annual Santa Clara County Hot Stove Banquet on Jan. 29 at the San Jose Elks Club, 444 W. Alma Ave.

Major League umpires Ted Barrett and Ed Montague will be special guests at the event that will also honor the San Jose Giants and minor league stars Aaron Bates of the Boston Red Sox and Nick Pereira of the San Francisco Giants.

College standouts Tommy Medica and Jeff Lombard of Santa Clara University, Brendan Domaracki of Stanford and Brian Yocke of San José State University and community college sensations Doug Porras and David Berner of West Valley College will also be honored.

High school award winners include Mark Canha of Bellarmine, Craig Hertler of Branham, Kyle Blair of Los Gatos and Kellen McColl of Los Altos.

Winning special awards at the event will be Dan Payne, Ted Barrett Amateur Umpire Award; Jack Gifford, Special Service Award; John Shrader, Sports Media Person of the Year; Gene Wellman of the Houston Astros, Scout of the Year; and the Moreland Little League major division all-stars.
