Aegis Gallery to hold art sale
Instead of displaying the works of one member in its featured artist room, Aegis Gallery of Fine Art is holding a group show and art sale through Jan. 27. The gallery, which has more than two dozen members, is filled with photography, watercolors, monotypes, ceramics, paper designs, masks, glass art, collages and many matted, unframed paintings--all at discount prices.

Hakone Gardens plans new events
As part of the classes and programs it offers throughout the year dealing with arts, culture and wellness, Saratoga's Hakone Gardens is starting 2002 off with many events. A series on ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging, begins Jan 8 and will be led by instructor Cathy Toy.
Saratogan Mariko Suzuki holds the first class of her sumi-E series on Jan. 14. Sumi-E is a Japanese pen and ink art technique. Also beginning Jan. 14 is a watercolor series taught by prolific artist Kay Duffy of Saratoga. Hakone Gardens is at 21000 Big Basin Way. Child abuse center needs volunteers
The Child Abuse Prevention Center, which serves Santa Clara and San Mateo counties, is looking for people to join its volunteer case aide programs.

Teachers' group plans meeting
The Santa Clara County Division of the California Retired Teachers' Association invites all retired educators in the area to attend its next meeting to learn more about the organization.
