The speaker is Dr. Fred Armstrong, a longtime Saratogan and former president of the Santa Clara County branch of the American Medical Association. A potluck dinner precedes the program, which takes place at the Unitarian Fellowship of Los Gatos, 15980 Blossom Hill Road, Los Gatos. For reservations and potluck assignment, call 370-6929. West Valley gets a flea in its ear The West Valley College Theater Department's spring play, A Flea in Her Ear, opens May 1 and runs through May 10 at the campus theater, located at 14000 Fruitvale Ave., Saratoga. Written by Georges Feydeau, the play is a bedroom farce set in 1920s Paris. Among its humorous characters are infatuated lovers, scheming wives, jealous husbands and a hot-blooded Spaniard who all check into the Hotel Whoop-De-Doo. Homeowners can learn landscaping The Saratoga Recreation Department is offering a class in landscaping basics on three consecutive Mondays, beginning May 4, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The class provides an opportunity for participants to learn about landscaping and to work with the instructor to complete a scaled-down, customized plan of their yard and a planting plan. A field trip to a wholesale nursery is also included. Call 868-1248. Learn to live well with chronic illness The adult education program of the Los Gatos-Saratoga Department of Community Education and Recreation is now registering participants for a one-day class, Living Well with Chronic Illness, on May 13 from 1 to 4 p.m. Individuals with arthritis, diabetes, chronic fatigue syndrome, high blood pressure, Parkinson's disease and other chronic illnesses can learn to improve their quality of life.
