In honor of National Volunteer Week, the Saratoga City Council took the opportunity last week to thank some of the city's volunteers.
The residents honored included Anne Campbell, Bernice Giansiracusa, Mildred "Cissy" Hoffman, Jack Stephenson and the 70-member Saratoga Amateur Radio Association.
Campbell, who has volunteered since 1984, has devoted 1,208 hours to the city in the planning and finance departments, the Emergency Preparedness Program, and the mayor's office and as a Volunteer Saratoga office assistant. Giansiracusa has given the city 754 hours of her time in the city manager's office, the Volunteer Saratoga office and the planning and recreation departments. She has also worked for the Emergency Preparedness Program and contributed to the Youth Services Directory, and now researches assessor's parcel numbers for permits in the Planning Department.
Hoffman has dedicated 840 hours to Saratoga since 1986 and has worked primarily in the Recreation Department as an escort for trips. Stephenson has given 1,117 hours of his time working in the recreation, engineering and planning departments, and is now a database expert for Volunteer Saratoga and a street-traffic log manager for the Public Works Department. The Saratoga Amateur Radio Association has provided communication and traffic-control support.
