    Latin music superstars coming

This summer, two entertainers well-known in the Latin music community, Jose Feliciano and Celia Cruz, will perform at Villa Montalvo, 15400 Montalvo Road in Saratoga.

Singer and guitarist Feliciano plays in the Garden Theater on July 20, at 7:30 p.m. His achievements include more than 60 albums--40 of which went either gold or platinum--plus six Grammy Awards and Billboard magazine's Lifetime Achievement Award.

Among his hit songs are Light My Fire (an all-acoustic version of The Doors' classic), the Christmas standard Feliz Navidad and the theme song for the 1970s TV series Chico and the Man. A member of the music scene for nearly 40 years, Feliciano picked up his 16th Grammy nomination for his 1998 album, Señor Bolero.

Cruz plays a gig billed as "an afternoon of hot salsa" on Montalvo's front lawn on Aug. 6, at 4 p.m. She has spent 50 years in the entertainment spotlight, from her early days in Cuba with the group La Sonera Matancera through her 1960s collaborations with the late Tito Puente to the fiery salsa she serves up today.

She has recorded more than 70 albums--20 of which are certified gold--and has earned one Grammy, two Billboard awards and the President's Award from the National Endowment for the Arts. Her most recent album is appropriately titled Mi Vida es Cantar--"My Life is to Sing."

Opening Cruz's show is the Bay Area's own Charanga Nueve, a band that combines classic flute-and-violin Cuban charanga music with modern influences.

Villa Montalvo is a nonprofit arts center whose mission is to inspire a love of arts and culture in young and old alike through creation, presentation and education. For ticket information, or to find out about other summer concerts, call 408.961.5858, or visit www.villamontalvo.org on the Internet.
