Company should seek better way

I appreciate the paper keeping us up to date on the status of the new telephone area code that threatens to split Saratoga. The article in the Saratoga News said that we would have to dial all 11 digits and include the area code of every telephone number. I wonder if anybody thought to ask why a computer-controlled system can't be programmed to default to the same area code as the caller's if only seven digits are entered?

It would seem possible that this is an excuse to train us to dial 11 digits and that the phone company might not be making use of the capability of a programmed system to ease our life for us.
