League sponsors a community meeting

The Los Gatos-Monte Sereno-Saratoga League of Women Voters will hear a panel address the topic of "Community Recreation, Enrichment and the Future" at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 10 at Saratoga City Hall conference room, 13777 Fruitvale Ave.

Speakers are: Phil Pabich, assistant dean of community education for West Valley-Mission Community College District; Bob Best, director of the Los Gatos-Saratoga Community Education and Recreation Department; and Joan Pisani, director of the Saratoga Recreation Department.

The speakers will give brief histories of their departments and discuss how they are funded and how they select program offerings. They will be asked to assess how they are filling the needs of the communities they represent and what challenges they face in the future.

Book auction benefits the Saratoga Library

Saratoga Community Library will hold a Paperback Book Sale Oct. 9-13 from 6 to 9 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the library.

In addition, an auction of rare and collectible books will be held at the library at 7 p.m. Oct. 10 by Friends of the Saratoga Libraries. Books are available for preview, and silent bids will be accepted through Oct. 6.

Anyone wishing to make a tax-deductible donation of books may contact the Friends at 867-5552.
