The leaves might not be turning yet, but textbook pages sure are. Schools are now back in session and prepped for action with new programs, new students and new teachers.
Saratoga High School welcomes six new teachers to four departments this year.
Stephen Bell has been a substitute teacher for the Los GatosSaratoga High School District for one year and will now be teaching English full time. Bell received a bachelor's degree in philosophy from the University of Chicago and his teaching credential at San José State University.
Kelly Brown, formerly a teacher at Santa Cruz High School, will be teaching English at Saratoga. Brown is a UC-Santa Cruz graduate who majored in English. She earned her master's degree in education from Santa Clara University.
Lisa Cornejo will be the new choral music teacher. She is from Canada and previously taught in Washington. Cornejo has a bachelor's degree in music education from Eastern Washington University.
Julianne Jory joins Saratoga High from Timpanagos High School in Utah. Jory, who will be teaching English, has a bachelor's degree in humanities and English from Brigham Young University.
Adam Minyard comes to Saratoga from Oklahoma, where he taught at Midwest City High School. Minyard will be teaching math at Saratoga High and has a bachelor's degree in math and secondary education.
Ann Purcell will be teaching in the special education program. Purcell previously taught for the Eastside Union High School District. She has a bachelor's degree in special education and home economics from San José State University and has a master's degree in special education and education administration from Santa Clara University.
