Laura L. Bailey
Laura Lee Bailey, 83, died Aug. 10 following a long illness.
Bailey, a native of Willows, owned her own framing and gift shop, The Mitre Box, in Saratoga for 20 years before moving to Carmel in 1988. Bailey enjoyed oil painting, knitting, weaving and interior decorating and design. She was a member of various organizations, including the Carmel Art Association.
Bailey is survived by her husband of 16 years, Kenneth D. Bailey; son Michael and his wife Patsy Foley of Portland, Ore.; son Patrick and his wife Terri Foley of Platte City, Mo.; son Bruce Mitchell and his partner Todd Porteous of Monterey; son Kevin and his wife Michelle Mitchell of Hot Sulphur Springs, Colo.; daughter Kathy Blakeney of Fremont; stepdaughters Dianne Baldwin of Sebastopol and Joanne Swindall of Concord; sister Barbara Strawn of Chico; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
At Bailey's request, her body has been donated to the UC-San Francisco Medical Center for medical education and research. Donations can be made in her name to the Lucile Packard Children's Fund, 770 Welch Road, Suite 350, Palo Alto, CA 94304 or to a charity of choice.
Michael A. Lance
Michael Alan Lance, 47, formerly of Saratoga, died Aug. 24.
Lance was born in Tucson, Ariz., the son of Drew and Patricia Ann Lance. He grew up in Saratoga and graduated from Saratoga High School.
Lance worked for Lockheed Martin in Sunnyvale for seven years, then started his own restaurant and deli in Saratoga. During this time, he also concentrated on his art, working in glass etchings and sand-
blasting.
Lance later moved to Idaho, where he worked as an officer for the Blaine County Sheriff's Department. He also worked as an artist, creating works in glass, rock, tile and other materials, as requested by his customers.
He is survived by his wife Teresa Lance; son, Logan Lance; stepsons, Mike, Steven and Charlie Straley; mother Patricia Lance; brother Drew Lance; and sister Amy Lance Parsons.
A memorial service and cremation took place on Aug. 28 in Hailey, Idaho.
