Juanita Crawford
Juanita Crawford, 89, died Nov. 29 of complications from a broken hip and shoulder.
Crawford was born in Oakland, to William Thompson and Mabel Oliver. Her father, who was a proprietor of grocery stores in England, left his homeland to see San Francisco after seeing newsreels of the earthquake in 1906. Her mother died of influenza when Crawford was 2, so she grew up in Oakland with her father's family.
She married Roy Henry Crawford of Arkadelphia, Ark., on Sept. 22, 1935, in San Diego. They made their home in Laguna Beach. While her husband served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 30 years, she worked in real estate and raised their son, Roy Patrick Crawford. Her husband retired from the military on Aug. 10, 1956. Crawford volunteered her time with the Red Cross and the Laguna Beach Festival of Arts until she moved to Felton in 1966. Her husband died in Felton in 1982.
Crawford made her home at the Terraces of Los Gatos for the last 10 years.
Besides her son and his wife Gay Crawford of Saratoga, she is survived by grandchildren David Crawford and Casey Crawford Lynch; and great-grandson Caden William Crawford of Long Beach.
A private family service will be held at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in the memorial garden on Dec. 22.
