Saratoga 8-year-olds win tourney title

Saratoga's baseball fans have a reason to be excited. The Saratoga Little League's 8-year-old team won an all-star tournament, outscoring its opponents 61-26.

In the championship game, Saratoga defeated Campbell 14-7 and in the semifinal round 'Toga downed Watsonville 10-2. The third round of the tournament pitted Saratoga against Santa Clara and the locals won 12-7. In round two it was Los Altos that Saratoga defeated 11-7 and the first round of the tournament found Saratoga beating South San Francisco 14-3.

The members of the Saratoga 8-year-old all-star team included Eric Krall, Tristan Bush, Matt Bennett, Todd Jackson, Brian Krall, Miles Albert, Joseph Murphy, Jason Andersen, Josh Lauck, Kyle Joye, Scott Baumel, Kevin Glajchen, Sean Mollahan and Brian Tatman.

Saratoga's 9-year-old all-star team has been competing in the District 12 tournament at Willow Glen for the past two weeks and won two of its four games. On June 30, Saratoga finished the final round of pool play by defeating Almaden North 12-5. Paris Muise and Tyler Morales led the offensive attack for Saratoga. Muise knocked two hits including a triple, while Morales had two hits and scored three times. Billy Vithanage added a pair of hits, including a double, while Andrew Singer had a hit and scored twice. Austin Bakke, Nathan Fotedar, Ryan Casini, Billy Inserra, Logan MacDonnel and Kyle MacCauley each had a hit and scored.

Earlier in the week on June 27, Saratoga met and defeated Los Gatos National 8-5. This time Justin Douglas had the big bat, knocking two hits including a double and he also scored twice. Fotedar and Muise added two hits apiece and a run scored each, Singer and Vithanage both singled and scored, and Bakke and Tyler Morales each scored.

Saratoga lost a tough one 14-11 to Union on June 25. Douglas was on fire with the bat again, knocking four hits and scoring twice, while Bakke had a pair of hits, including a triple, and he scored a run. Casini and Vincent Faylor both had two hits and scored, Inserra and MacDonnel both knocked a pair of hits, Vithanage had a hit and scored twice, both Muise and Fotedar had a hit and scored, Morales added a hit and Singer and MacCauley both scored.

In the first game of the tournament, Saratoga defeated Lincoln Glen 7-5 on June 23. Singer knocked a hit and scored three times in the win while both Douglas and Bakke had a hit and scored. Muise and Inserra added singles while both Morales and Vithanage scored.

The semifinal round of the tournament took place on July 2 with Saratoga facing the No. 2 team from the south pool at the Willow Glen Little League field. The other game will be held at the San Jose American Little League field at the same time with the top team from the south pool facing the No. 2 team from the north pool. Both games will begin at 5:30 p.m.

The championship game will see the winners of the semifinal round games face each other at Willow Glen on June 3 at 5:30 p.m.
