Lees score two TDs apiece to lead Saratoga f-s to win

By Dick Sparrer

Andrew Lee and Jian Lee scored two touchdowns apiece and Vincent Carstens threw to Kevin Smith for another to lead the Saratoga frosh-soph football team to a 35-19 victory over Fremont in the El Camino Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League.

A. Lee followed a big block by Gregory Johnson to score a first-half touchdown, and he scored again in the second half when his own 23-yard run set up a two-yard touchdown blast. He followed up that second score with a run for the two-point conversion.

J. Lee scored a first-half TD and scored on an eight-yard run late in the game for an important insurance touchdown. It was his long kickoff return that had taken the Falcons to the Fremont 25-yard line before A. Lee's second score.

Carstens tossed a 33-yard TD pass to Smith late in the first half to send the Falcons in at intermission up 20-0.

The Firebirds battled back to cut the lead to 20-13, but the second half touchdowns by the Lees helped Saratoga clinch the win.

Brandon Shahmirza was a force for the Falcons, both running the football and on defense. Adam Oreglia, Chris Moran, Andy Berman, Joseph Walters, Nick Dere and Trevor Teerlink were other defensive standouts in the win.

Leading the charge up front offensively were linemen Kyle Keating, Kenny Kai, Oreglia, Bryce Dozier and Stephen Leslie.

The young Falcons will return to league action this week when they host Gunn on Nov. 2, 5:15 p.m., at Benny Pierce Field.
