    New transportation meeting scheduled

The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority Board of Directors has rescheduled its regular January meeting from Jan. 4 to Jan. 11 at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Board of Supervisors' Chambers at the County Government Center, 70 Hedding St., San Jose.

    Valerio named VTA chairman

After serving as the vice-chair of the VTA Board of Directors in 2000, Sunnyvale City Councilmember Manny Valerio has taken over as the Chair for 2001. This is a key position, given the importance of transportation management in this period of time in this region.

Council approves acquisition of two properties

At their Dec. 12 meeting, city council approved the acquisition of two parcels of property at the intersection of Olive and Charles avenues directly across from the city hall and adjacent to the city library. These parcels, located at 505 W. Olive Ave., total 5.6 acres and are highly desirable due to their proximity to the city hall campus and downtown areas. According to city staff, the $17 million purchase of these properties will allow the city to accommodate its projected growing needs over the next 10 to 15 years.
