Mayor consults lawyer on Rowe's accusations
Former Sunnyvale Mayor Fran Rowe accused Mayor Stan Kawczynski of forcing Union Bank to do business with him when he was a member of the Sunnyvale City Council in 1993.
During a council meeting on Jan. 7, Rowe said Kawczynski, an investment adviser, told the bank to do business with him or he would have the city close accounts with the bank.
Kawczynski responded by saying he would talk with an attorney to see if Rowe's statements were slanderous.
Kawcyznski sat on the council when the majority ousted Rowe as mayor in 1994.
They contended they lost confidence in her ability to lead the council and said she periodically acted unprofessionally on the job.
Rowe retained her position on the council after she was removed as mayor, but she lost a reelection bid in 1995.
