    Free Citizenship Classes

    Fremont High School is hosting two free citizenship classes for legal residents 18 years or older with five years residence status who need English as a second language instruction in reading, writing and speaking to pass the citizenship test. The class instructs participants on United States history, federal, state and local governments, how to fill out the N-400 application and provide practice for written tests. The citizenship preparation class is for more advanced English-speakers, and will be more in-depth and move at a faster pace. The ESL citizenship preparation class is for people at an intermediate level of English, and is geared to help with the vocabulary necessary to pass the citizenship test. Classes will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays, Jan. 22 through March 28, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Fremont High School. The advanced-English class will be held in room 95, and the ESL class will be in room 90. Registration takes place during the first class. For more information, call 408.522.2735.

    Crafting Class

    The Sunnyvale Senior Center will hold a hand-crafted stationary and candles class on Jan. 24, at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Senior Center, room 505. Participants will create stationary and greeting card designs and candles. Cost for the class is $15, with a $1.50 materials fee due at the class. Some items necessary must be provided by the participants. For more information, call 408.522.2712.

    Belmont Village Assisted Living Open House

    Belmont Village Assisted Living Community will host an information center open house for San Jose area seniors and their families on Jan. 20, from 1 to 4 p.m. Seniors and their families are invited to take tours of the grounds and learn more about assisted living. Belmont Village, 1039 E. El Camino Real, Sunnyvale, is an upbeat community where seniors can receive personal support, meals, housekeeping, transportation services and programs for individual interests. The Belmont Village community provides a hallmark program for residents with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. For more information, call 408.984.4767.

    Ongoing Study of American Literature on Mondays

    The Sunnyvale Senior Center will hold an ongoing American Literature class for those interested in reading and discussing plays, short stories and novels by current and classic American writers. The class will be held on Mondays, Jan. 22 through March 19, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Senior Center, room 502. Cost for the class is $27. For more information, call 408.522.2712.

    55 Alive Mature Driving

    The Sunnyvale Senior Center is offering a 55 Alive mature driving course on Jan. 23 and 30, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The course costs $10. For more information, call 408.730.7360.
