    Downtown Greed

"Downtown Digs" (Sun, Jan. 3) reports the new downtown groundbreaking ceremony for high rises featured council and staff" in the high spirits." The words "champagne," and, "giddy" are mentioned Yes, they do have a good time. We might imagine the city folk acting "giddy" in the future when planning or overplanning Sunnyvale into a mini-metropolis bristling with business towers.

At the groundbreaking, City Manager LaSala declared, "This is a big day for Sunnyvale," apparently overcome by hubris.. "Once this is all built, it will attract more and more developers." Thus, our hired leader reminds us of the newspaper stories of some years ago that asserted area governments had yielded the future to developers.
