Sunnyvale City Councilwoman Julia Miller has been appointed to the National League of Cities' Human Development Steering Committee.
The Human Development Steering Committee, made up of 35 local officials from across the nation, analyzes and develops policy on federal issues, such as employment and job training, social security and unemployment insurance, income support programs, immigration and refugees, health and education, equal opportunity and social services.
The National League of Cities is the country's largest organization serving municipal governments. It hopes to build understanding and support for cities and towns.
Water district to change treatment
On March 5, 2001, the Santa Clara Valley Water District will temporarily change the method used to treat the water it supplies to the California Water Service Company, better known as Cal Water, Los Altos District.
For a period of approximately two weeks, SCVWD will switch to free chlorine disinfection, as part of its annual water distribution system maintenance.
According to Cal Water, customers may notice a chlorine taste, or smell, in their water during this period. This can be reduced by refrigerating the water overnight.
Cal Water customers who have questions are encouraged to call 650.917.0152.
