      Homestead teacher named speech fellow

      Homestead High School English teacher and drama coach Shareen Clarke has been selected as a Northwestern University School of Speech Summer Fellow.

      Clarke will join a long list of distinguished secondary teachers who have participated in this program over the past 19 years. The program operates over a six-week period, from June 23 to Aug. 2.

      Wong wins Tandy tech scholar award

      Homestead High School science teacher Gareth Wong was recently selected as a winner in the Tandy Technology Scholars Program, a national competition in which the top 100 math, science and computer science teachers in a pool of about 700 applicants are awarded $2,500.

      In addition, the program purchased advertising space in Time magazine, and all winners were pictured in the magazine's March 31 issue. Wong was nominated by the parents of two former students.

      Lynbrook High hosts computer giveaway

      Lynbrook High School will host the Detwiler Foundation Computers for Schools Program computer distribution event on May 6, 1997. Gail Wilson, Gov. Pete Wilson's wife, will be the keynote speaker at the event, which will be attended by electronic industry representatives and education leaders.
