Annual event showcases locals

The Sunnyvale Chamber of Commerce will honor local businesses and community leaders at Showcase Sunnyvale on Oct. 3.

This year, U.S. Rep. Anna Eshoo will be honored for her service to the business community, which includes her support for a balanced budget, work on legislation to create tax incentives, and efforts to relax export controls.

Councilwoman Robin Parker will receive the Athena Award, the Chamber's recognition for business person of the year.

The evening's events will begin at 6:30 p.m at the Sunnyvale Hilton Grand Ballroom. Dinner will be served, and tickets are $70 apiece. Call 736-4971.

Mayor proclaims humanities month

Mayor Stan Kawczynski has named October as Arts and Humanities Month, and the Department of Parks and Recreation has planned numerous cultural activities to coincide with the proclamation. The city will offer various dance and art classes; the California Theatre Center will present Tales of Brer Rabbit, The Ugly Duckling and Rumpelstiltskin at the Community Center Theatre; and the Creative Arts Center will sell pottery on Oct. 17 and 18.
