Dons pull out win
Kara Grondzik (Leland) knocked in a first-half goal off an assist from Jodie Walters (Fremont) to lead the De Anza College women's soccer team to a thrilling 1-0 victory over rival West Valley College last week.
The Lady Dons improved to 3-0-1 in the Coast Conference with the win. De Anza is 5-0-1 for the year.
Meanwhile, the De Anza men blanked Hartnell 2-0 and Las Positas 1-0 to jump to 4-0-1 for the year.
Coaches clinic
Baseball coaches Mike Cummins of Santa Clara University, Sam Piraro of San Jose State University and Rich Hill of USF will be the guest speakers at the Northern California baseball coaches clinic set for Oct. 12, 9 a.m.-3:15 p.m., at Cupertino High School. The cost is $25 per person. For more information, call Chuck Blair at 984-6116.
King's wins, loses
The King's Academy girls' volleyball team cruised to three wins last week. The Knights beat Fremont Christian 15-10, 15-12, 15-13, handled Valley Christian of Dublin 15-4, 15-5, 15-1 and crushed Berean Christian 15-1, 15-3, 15-1.
The Knights are now 10-1 in the young 1997 season.
The King's boys' soccer team, meanwhile, lost twice last week in non-league play, falling 6-1 to Valley Christian of Dublin and 7-1 to Fremont Christian. The Knights slipped to 1-3 for the year.
