    Feed the Birds

A recent 'Message from Management' in our mobile home newsletters stated, "It has been brought to our attention by the Sunnyvale Animal Control that if you have food out for any of the birds or other critters, you upset the ecology. ... Please let all living creatures find their own food, the way Mother Nature wants you to do."

Give me a break--if this is actually a message from Sunnyvale Animal Control, then they join the mobile home management in not knowing what the heck they are talking about, and are misleading those who actually believe everything they hear. Although in natural environments, this is good advice, I would recommend taking a look around you at the unnatural environment you are living in--if you don't think man's activities, overdevelopment, tree removal, etc. is not upsetting the ecology in a big way, then you are blind. There are many people that enjoy having other life around besides humans - including the few birds and critters that we are fortunate enough to have left after the mass destruction of their natural homes and food sources. Audubon actually publishes literature on how to attract birds to your home--for those that do enjoy our feathered friends.

If it is true that all living creatures should find their own food the way Mother Nature wants us to, then over half the human population would perish, including those who don't seem to understand anything about ecology. It's a sad state of affairs when some people find it necessary to want to destroy every living creature in sight and appear to believe that sterile, lifeless and overpopulated, overdeveloped cities are the answer to human dilemmas.
