Soccer camps

Professional soccer coach David Gold will serve as the director for the Winter Holiday Soccer Camps set for Dec. 22-26 and Dec. 29-Jan. 2 in San Jose.

The camps are open to boys and girls ages 8-18, from novice to select ability levels. Players will be grouped by age and ability.

Volleyball club

The Quicksilver Volleyball Club, the oldest girls' club in the greater San Jose area, will hold tryouts for the 1998 season in December at San Jose City College.

Tryout dates include: 14-and-under-- Dec. 14, 9-11 a.m. (coaches Anne Finney and Scott Silva); 16-and-under-- Dec. 14, noon-3 p.m. (coaches John Milkovich and Tony Germano); and 18-and-under-- Dec. 14, 3-5 p.m. (coaches Randy Ranoa and Andrew Kim).

The registration fee is $35.

Sports grants

The Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame will continue in its tradition of supporting youth sports by offering grants to youth sports organizations through its BASHOF Youth Fund.

Applications for the grants must be completed and returned by Dec. 31.
