Baseball, softball

It may be the middle of winter, but it's time for local youngsters to start thinking about baseball, because sign-ups for Sunnyvale youth leagues are now under way:

Sunnyvale Metro Little League--Sign-ups will be held Jan. 3, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., at Raynor Park; Jan. 4, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., at Ponderosa Park; Jan. 6, 7-9 p.m., at Raynor Park; Jan. 10, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., at Ortega Park; and Jan. 10, 7-9 p.m., at Ponderosa Park. For more information, call 243-5437.

Sunnyvale Southern Little League--Sign-ups are now being accepted for junior league (age 13) and senior league (ages 14-15) baseball. For more information, call Andy Gonzales at 773-1615. Sign-ups are also being held for girls' senior league softball (13-15). For more information, call Bob Kinder at 736-9014.

Volleyball tryouts

The Cowabunga Volleyball Club will hold tryouts for the 1998 season on Dec. 21 at Presentation. Tryouts will be held for girls' 16s, 15s and 14s teams, and there is a $20 fee. For more information call Ed Mattson at 779-8762.

Panthers need coaches

Presentation varsity softball coach Duffy D'Angelo is looking for experienced softball coaches for the junior varsity and freshman teams at the school. Practice begins in mid-January. For more information, call D'Angelo at 236-3143.
