Adult basketball

The Sunnyvale adult basketball league will begin play on Jan. 7. The registration fee is $500 per team, with an additional $11 non-resident fee charged for players not living in Sunnyvale. For more information, call Gary Brown at 730-7334.

Sports & Boat Show

The 54th annual San Francisco Sports & Boat Show returns to the Cow Palace Jan. 12-21.

Boats, motors, fishing, hunting, camping and windsurfing will be among the events featured at the show. There will also be a new Giants baseball hall, free trout fishing for children and an air rifle display.

Admission is $7 for adults and $3 for children. Seniors will be admitted for half price on weekdays. Doors open at noon on weekdays and 11 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

The show is the oldest of its kind in California. It was founded in 1942 during World War II blackouts.

Soccer camp

A holiday soccer camp for youngsters ages 5-15 will be held Dec. 26-29 at De Anza Community College. Camp hours are 8 a.m.-noon. For more information, call 864-8745.

Basketball clinic

The Sunnyvale Parks and Recreation Department will host a Holiday Basketball Skills Clinic Dec. 27-29 at the Sunnyvale Community Center Indoor Sports Center, 550 E. Remington.

Boys and girls in the third and fourth grades will attend from 8:30 to 10 a.m., with children in the first and second grades attending from 10:30 a.m. to noon and those in the fifth-eighth grades attending from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

West Valley camp

The sixth annual Christmas Baseball Clinic returns to West Valley Community College over winter break under the direction of the school's head baseball coach Mike Perez.

The camp features two sessions, Dec. 27-28 and Jan. 3-4, and hours are 1:30-4:30 p.m. for youngsters ages 7-14. The cost is $65 per session.

The mental and physical aspects of hitting will be covered by Perez and his assistant coach, Burch Buehner. Players must provide their own bats and wear tennis shoes.
