Mustangs top all-league team
By Mike Barnhart
Both of Homestead's water polo teams won division championships this fall, so it was not surprising that several Mustangs received all-El Camino Division honors.
Senior Jenny Coryell reeled in the biggest award--Most Valuable Player--from the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League El Camino girls' coaches. Four of Coryell's teammates, senior Morgan Fuller, juniors Melissa Sullivan and Lisa Yao and sophomore Jesse Bergman, all were named to the first team. Senior Justine Darmanian received honorable mention.
Lynbrook's Paige Robinson was named Most Valuable Goalie and teammates Kristina Steinbruner and Jamie Oeser were picked to the first team.
Other girls named to the El Camino all-league squad were Amanda Hui and Emma Drysdale of Monta Vista, Nadia Basilio of Cupertino, Astrid Preussner, Catie Shemwell and Ariela Engber of Wilcox, Shaya Deaton of Santa Clara and Beckie Yanovsky of Harker.
Farrah Quinby (Cupertino), Brianna Ramirez (Lynbrook), Becca Wagner and Molly Karleskind (Monta Vista), Katee Comee (Harker) and Dianne Antonopoulos (Wilcox) all received honorable mention.
Five Homestead boys earned first-team recognition, seniors Justin Aflatooni, Geovid Kali and Collin Russum and juniors Josh Glincher and Matt Edwards. Two other Mustangs, seniors Jeff Meadows and Taylor Stanton, received honorable mention.
Fremont senior Tony Rhodes was the Most Valuable Player in the El Camino boys division, and Cupertino's Ryan Jarvis was Most Valuable Goalie.
Joining the five Mustangs on the first team were senior Danny Moctezuma and junior Evan Mahoney of Fremont, Matt Cai, Joe Chung and Terry Jiang of Lynbrook, Danny Rebholtz and Tim Crisolongo of Wilcox and Raymond Paseman of Harker.
Mathew Amm of Fremont, Scott Lamkin of Lynbrook, Bryan Dericco of Wilcox, Johnway Yih and Ryan Ikeda of Cupertino and Michael Clifford of Harker all earned honorable mention.
All-De Anza
Senior Dylan Gantley of Monta Vista was named to the All-De Anza Division first team, while senior teammates Jason Hogin and Eric Casavant were honorable mention.
Fremont senior Julia Sterling was picked to the girls' first team and senior Abby McNeil was honorable mention.
