Public Safety

The following incidents were compiled from the log at the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety.

Residential burglary--Jan. 26, 3:41 p.m., 600 block of E. Olive Avenue. Someone noticed a broken front window on a neighbor's house.

Residential burglary--Jan. 25, 2:32 p.m., 1400 block of Floyd Avenue. People were reportedly breaking into residences and then running down the street with big bags.

Grand theft--Jan. 25, 11:41 a.m., 800 block of E. Fremont Avenue. Someone stole a package from a man's home worth $1,000 to $2,000.

Commercial burglary--Jan. 25, 8:09 a.m., 1200 block of Bordeaux Drive. Someone burglarized a business.

Theft--Jan. 24, 10:57 p.m., 1200 block of E. Arques Avenue. Someone reportedly stole a gym bag with keys from a man's locker at a 24-Hour Fitness.

Theft--Jan. 24, 10:41 p.m., 1100 block of Reed Avenue. Someone stole the tailgate off a man's 2007 Ford F-150 within the previous hour.

Theft--Jan. 24, 6:21 p.m., 900 block of W. El Camino Real. Someone stole two phones from a cell phone store.

Elder abuse--Jan. 24, 9:12 a.m., 500 block of E. El Camino Real. A 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of pushing his 72-year-old mother, whom he lives with, against a TV or wall.

Grand theft--Jan. 24, 9:17 a.m., 800 block of Stewart Drive. Someone stole a leather couch, love seat, coffee table and two chairs overnight from a business that was being forced to vacate a hazardous building.

Residential burglary--Jan. 23, 8:25 p.m., 900 block of Helen Avenue. Someone stole a Sony laptop.

Auto theft--Jan. 23, 8:03 p.m., 1100 block of Ayala Drive. Someone stole a red 1989 Pontiac Firebird.

Robbery--Jan. 23, 2:41 p.m., 1000 block of E. Arques Avenue. A 24-year-old Sunnyvale man was arrested on suspicion of robbery, after struggling with security guards outside Fry's Electronics.

Theft--Jan. 23, 1:18 p.m., 300 block of Waverly Street. Someone stole a UPS package that was delivered on Jan. 10.

 

Vandalism--Jan. 23, 10:04 a.m., 700 block of S. Bernardo Avenue. Someone egged the victim's three cars about three days earlier.

Prowling--Jan. 23, 12:09 a.m., 200 block of Bartlett Avenue. A 38-year-old Sunnyvale man was arrested on suspicion of prowling and being under the influence.

Commercial burglary--Jan. 22, 9:45 a.m., 400 block of E. Java Drive. Someone broke into a hazardous materials shed overnight at Network Appliance.

Residential burglary--Jan. 20, 9:06 p.m., 100 block of S. Mary Avenue. Someone entered a home, leaving a Starbucks cup inside and the front door open.

Residential burglary--Jan. 20, 8:38 a.m., 600 block of San Conrado Terrace. Someone stole a bicycle from a garage.

Unsafe building--Jan. 17, 2:30 p.m., 800 block of Stewart Drive. Sunnyvale DPS Fire Prevention officials declared a two-story, 68,000-square-foot building at 830 Stewart Drive to be unsafe, based on 25 separate fire, building and municipal code violations that created fire and life-safety hazards, according to a DPS statement. About 97 businesses inside were forced to move, but were granted some time as long as the property manager provided a fire watch.
