Town Center Update

The Sun periodically provides updates on the $400 million Town Center redevelopment project headed by Sand Hill Property Co.

* The right lane (curb lane) of northbound Mathilda Avenue between Iowa and Washington avenues will be closed for 12 months beginning immediately after Memorial Day. Occasional closures of additional through-lanes of northbound Mathilda are also expected. Alternate north-south commute routes, such as Lawrence Expressway, are recommended during this time.

* Framing for residential units above retail podiums south of McKinley Avenue is under way. A frame for one of the elevators serving these units has been erected. A tower crane has been installed to facilitate this work.

* Construction of street-level slabs for office buildings along Mathilda Avenue is nearing completion.

* Installation of a new natural gas line under Washington Avenue between Murphy and Taaffe avenues is planned for the week of May 12. This work may also require a closure one night during the following week.

* Utility and road work on Iowa Avenue is scheduled to begin in late May. Lane closures will occur as the work proceeds.

* Foundations for several retail buildings around Redwood Square south of Macy's are being excavated and poured.
