Murdock to holdannual meeting
on Jan. 23
The Murdock Neighborhood Association will host a general meeting on Jan. 23 in the cafeteria at Lynbrook High School, 1280 Johnson Ave., San Jose. There is a social starting at 7 p.m.; the meeting is from 7:15 to 9 p.m. Those who live in the association's boundaries of Lawrence Expressway, Bollinger Road, Johnson Avenue to Lynbrook High School and Oak Knoll Drive are invited to attend and meet their neighbors, hear updates and address concerns. The nearby Miller and Rainbow neighborhood associations have also been invited.
Speakers will include Dan Rothenbush from PG&E regarding powering AT&T lines; Bernie Rosales, from the city of San Jose regarding gang activity; and Servando Perez regarding anti-graffiti. Perez will have kits to pass out to interested volunteers.
Murdock's 2008 officers include Doris Livezey, president; Mori Mandis, vice president; Kathy Herington, treasurer; Gabe Trejo, secretary; and Harish Chinai, parliamentarian. The group is still in need of a recording secretary and second vice president.

branch hosts
book sale
Friends of the West Valley Branch Library host a book sale Feb. 9, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friends members can shop early from 9 to 10 a.m., and those interested can join the group on the spot. There will be a bag sale from 2 to 3 p.m. with bargains. The library is located at 1243 San Tomas Aquino Road, near Saratoga Avenue in West San Jose. All proceeds benefit the library.

Man assaulted
walking home
on Hamilton
A man walking home from work on the 4000 block of Hamilton Ave. at 11:30 p.m. was hit him over the head with a bottle by an unknown person.
The individual took his wallet and other items and ran west on San Tomas Aquino Road, according to San Jose police. The victim was treated for his injuries and released.
Anyone with information about the assault is asked to contact the police robbery unit at 408.277.4166.
Police also attended a Jan. 9 meeting of the San Tomas West Neighborhood Association to talk about their efforts toward curbing gang activity, graffiti, loitering and other issues. The meeting, which took place at Payne Elementary School, 3750 Gleason Ave., drew about 65 people.

City TV channel
expects glitches
as it upgrades
Civic Center Television channel 26 may have some interruptions and outages in January and early February as its staff replaces some of equipment, the San Jose city manager's office reported. Some council meeting replays may not be aired, but live programming should not be affected, station representatives said. City council and committee meetings are also broadcast live online at www.sanjoseca.gov. The council meets on Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m.
