Around The Glen
Center will serve Willow Glen vets
The Veterans Services Center, the state's first one-stop veterans-services office, will open this spring at 68 N. Winchester Boulevard in Santa Clara.
The center is a unique collaboration between Santa Clara County's Veterans Services Office and the California Department of Veterans Affairs. The center will be located in the state-owned Cal-Vet Loans office building.
For the 160,000 veterans who reside in Santa Clara County, the office will provide information on housing, jobs, health, counseling, and financial and legal assistance. The county has invited 20 community based organizations that serve veterans to co-locate to the nearly 4,000-square-foot building.
"We want to help veterans who fought for us who now need services, who are entitled to these services and deserve these services under one roof, so they don't have to go out all over the place if they're disabled, if they're mentally or physically unable," says Betty Malks, director of the county's Department of Aging and Adult Services.
The Veterans Service Center is scheduled to open by April 1. For more information, call 408.928.3865.
