Beahm pours in 85 points in three games for Rams

    By Dick Sparrer

Guy Beahm appears to be as ready as he can be to open the league basketball season.

The 6-foot-8 senior center jammed home 85 points in three games to lead the Willow Glen boys basketball team to two wins in three tries in the final week of the preseason.

The Rams unloaded on Gunn 68-50 and clipped Fremont 60-45 before losing a tough 76-54 decision to Leland. The 2-1 effort left the Rams 8-5 as they look forward to the league season that begins this week.

Beahm bombed 25 points in the win over the Titans and he came back with an impressive 37 points in the win over the Firebirds. Beahm popped 23 points in the loss to Leland.

Beahm canned three three-pointers among his nine field goals and he added four points at the free-throw line on his way to a 25-point night against Gunn.

Casey Keegan, Willow Glen's hot-shooting 6-foot-0 senior guard, supported with 16 points against the Titans. Keegan drained three three-pointers in the win.

Pete Watts chipped in with nine points, all of them on three threes. Adam Saucedo hit seven points, David Macchi and Matt Staton added four apiece and Mihn Phan popped a three.

Beahm was unstoppable against Fremont. The big center drilled 14 field goals, three of them from three-point range, on his way to 37 points. Keegan had a three among his 13 points and Watts finished with five points, including a three. Staton added two points and Chris Lyons one.

Beahm came back with 23 points and Keegan had 19, but the Rams lost by 22 to Leland. Beahm hit a pair of threes and Keegan canned one. Macchi added five points, including a three, Watts hit a three, Staton and Saucedo had two apiece.

    Mustangs fourth

Eddie Lewis and Kevin Mack combined for 78 points and 18 three-pointers in three games to lead the Pioneer boys to a fourth-place finish in the Soquel Winter Classic last week.

Mack buried five threes to finish with 15 points and Lewis had three threes among his five field goals to end up with 13 in Pioneer's 52-41 win over Palo Alto to open the tourney. Mike Nakamura joined the two in double digits with 11 points.

Brian Davis came back with 20 points a game later, but the Mustangs lost 55-48 to host Soquel.

The Mustangs lost 59-55 to Los Gatos in the third-place game, despite a 24-point effort by Lewis. The junior guard had four threes among his 10 field goals. Mack also hit four threes to finish with 12 points in the game.
