Adoptive parents must have home study first

Your article "From Russia With Love" in the March 22 issue of the Willow Glen Resident was excellent and informative. However, it was incomplete with respect to the process necessary to complete an international adoption. You omitted the essential first step, which is that adoptive parents must obtain a home study from a state licensed international adoption agency. ACCEPT, an international adoption agency located in Los Altos, performs this vital function and did so for the two families interviewed in your article. Once the home study is completed, the adoptive parents then contract with a facilitator or liaison agency (such as RAFS) that identifies a child and assists in complying with the specific country's requirements for releasing a child to the United States. After a child's arrival home, ACCEPT provides services necessary to complete a California adoption and to send required reports back to the child's birth country. Potential applicants interested in international adoptions are welcome to call ACCEPT at 650.917.8090.

    Willow Glen, RFD?

I couldn't believe my eyes when I read your paper's story on Al Gore's visit to Willow Glen ["Willow Glen family meets a presidential candidate," March 8]. Out of the approximate 10 column inches devoted to the story, over seven of them are about the Gasparovic family!!! You barley mention Chris Carris and his coffee roasting company, but find time to tell us about how great the kids paint, etc.

I realize that this newspaper likes to cater to readers by mentioning Willow Glen residents, that is fine, but your story on the Gasparovics reminded me of what a newspaper in Hooterville or Mayberry would look like.

Why didn't you go into depth about Chris, his family and life? Your article states that over 2,000 people attended the rally (as told by Cindy Gasparovic). You act as if she and her family were the only persons to attend it. In fact, I hear that President Clinton is going to visit the Gasparovics in the very near future.

I do try and support your newspaper, and a good portion of the time you do a very fine job. Please keep up the good work, but please, no more stories on the Gasparovics. Please!
